The way to install an update depends if it is a minor or major Update. It is not necessary for users of the Mirage hosting service.

Major Update from version 3.0 to version 3.1

Version 3.x uses a complete new infrastructure and therefore needs a full new installation.

System requirements have changed. Before you start with the main installation first install the required new components.

Major Update installation version 3.0 to 3.1 -  step by step

1. Backup

Backup the complete directory, especially important is

Your database
project.config and all files from folder \PCONFIG
All *.xml files in the folder \alg and \pageconfig
Your license file licprotector.lic or lpwas.lic in the folder \alg

Note: The MSI installer will automatically create a backup folder

2. Install new components

The  Activation Server version Web Administration Interface needs new components like ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 or the Open XML SDK. Check the system requirements and start the install-activation-server.msi to find out, which components are missing.

3. Install the Activation Server

Install the Activation Server as using the MSI installer described in detail here.

If you want to replace/update an existing Activation Server, the Virtual directory name must match the name you use in your  application. A backup from the selected folder is generated and the SQL login data is automatically retrieved (see next page - Configure SQL Server).

Activation Server - Website Settings

To update your existing database, specify the existing database name, an existing user name and the password of this user.

4. Perfom System Check

Use the System Check to find out, if the system is properly configured. If you get an error, see Troubleshooting. Also make sure that you again set all necessary rights for the ASP service.

Test the Administration Interface and login as administrator.

5. Update your data

Your individual configuration settings are automatically preserved with the MSI installation.

First delete the license file lpwas.lic or licprotector.lic in the folder \alg and then copy the file lpwas.lic you got by E-Mail .See details Check for Updates / Update eligibility

If you used the ZIP installation, you have to change the new files and add your values, as there have been a lot of new settings.

licprotorws.config in the main folder. If you use now a different path name, you have to adapt the path name
Copy all files from the folder \PCONFIG. If you use now a different path name, you have to adapt the path name
Copy all *.xml files from the folder \alg and \pagecontent
First delete the license file lpwas.lic or licprotector.lic in the folder \alg and then copy the file lpwas.lic you got by E-Mail .See details Check for Updates / Update eligibility

Restart the IIS server

6. Update E-Mail Activator Service

The E-Mail Activator Service has changed. It supports now saving address information which has been sent with the e-mail.

Backup the configuration file mailactivator.xml
Uninstall E-Mail Activator Service 3.0 - this step is mandatory
Restore the configuration file mailactivator.xml

Service Pack 3.1.1

A Service Pack is available and must be installed to support all features of the latest Licence Protector version.

Download the service pack ZIP file
Backup the complete installation folder
Unzip the content of the ZIP file into the installation folder
If you use the E-Mail Activator install the Install E-Mail Activator Service 3.1 with the files provided in the service pack ZIP file
Restart the server
